About Mr. Bamboostick

Mr. Bamboostick (竹竿君 Zhúgān Jūn) started learning to play the guitar on a classical nylon string instrument when he was 11, and after exploring acoustic steel strings as well as different types of electric guitars he's still very much drawn to that initial gear of choice.

Musical Activity

Having jammed and connected with musicians from all over the globe, especially after relocating to Asia in 2010, he was fortunate to be invited into bands with different backgrounds and pursuing all kinds of musical endeavours, to practice, learn, and perform at mainly Taiwan-based venues and festivals. As a solo performer, aside from Mr. Bamboostick's original songs which span a wide array of styles, he enjoys bringing rearranged and reharmonised covers – with some pieces being instrumental, others coming with lyrics in all sorts of languages – to the stage in a mostly intimate, mellow, and non-ostentatious setting.

Wiki Project, Open Stages and Creative Philosophy

He set up and maintains a bilingual wiki page to cater to the diverse needs of musicians who try to make a living in Taiwan, and – in his capacity as Jambassador – tries to spread the word about jam sessions and open mic events whenever he can. He also proudly contributes to the street life culture of Taipei City since earning his busking license in 2022, and aspires to some day soon gather a tribe of creatives who combine the philosophical ideas of existentialism and other intriguing schools of thought with musical concepts from funk, soul, and jazz into a project named “Baby Funk 被逼房客” that's been simmering on the back burner for a while now. Let's hope the delivery driver to eventually serve up these delicious dishes isn't that Godot bloke rumored to get here shortly.
